Louis Philippe furniture styles are based on the Beaux-Arts architectural school, which became popular after the French Revolution. The style was to create an authentic French style, using elements of styles from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The style was aided by the great interest in the Middle Ages caused by the publication in 1831 of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo. The style heavily inspired architecture in the United States for many years.
